Sun Wind Beach Kitesurfing Resort and Kiteschool was conceived by Susantha Fernando, Kalpitiya's first local kitesurfer.
Susantha is a highly skilled boatsman with an unparalleled knowledge of the Kalpitiya peninsula. He hails from a local fishing family who have lived in Kalpitiya for generations. Susantha's life changed forever in 2007 when he witnessed kite surfing for the very first time. Sun Wind Beach Kalpitiya was established in 2015 and is the only kite resort and kite school in Kalpitiya that is wholly owned and operated by local kite surfers. All staff are members of the extended family, meaning income generated goes directly into the local community. It is true community based tourism.
