Thusare Talking Hands provides therapeutic massages using a Japanese acupressure technique called Shiatsu. The organization provides extensive training and economic empowerment for previously unemployed visually-impaired Sri Lankans who, as highly skilled therapists, bring the additional benefit of having exceptionally high sensitivity to touch. The therapy is delivered in an open area without the removal of clothes or use of oil, and provides relaxation, mental satisfaction and numerous health benefits.

Shiatsu was invented by Tokujiro Namikoshi who founded the first shiatsu college in 1940 in Japan. The characteristic of shiatsu is to apply pressure using only the fingers, palms and especially the thumbs on points that have been related to the central and autonomic nervous systems.
