At WFP Sri Lanka, she functioned as National Programme Officer, Mother and Child Nutrition (MCN) where she assisted the design of two Development Country Programmes and two Protracted Relief and Recovery Operations involving multi disciplinary national and international teams together with the Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition and the Ministry of Nation Building. Visakha spearheaded the community component of the Mother and Child Nutrition Activity by capacity building NGOs and CBOs to assist communities into long term food security, thereby reducing the dependency on food aid. She was responsible for the WHO work plan related to Nutrition and Food Safety, assisting the Focal Programme Managers of the Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition, and was also involved in the UN Joint Working Group on Poverty Reduction. She now works as an independent consultant to a number of international agencies.
